Taking you through the step-by-step practicalities of being your own wedding florist, I’ll cover
whether a DIY wedding is right for you, realistic budgets, and how to plan logistics before, on
the day and after.

What the course covers:
This isn’t a course to teach you how to make a pretty wedding bouquet: there are lots of
those already out there. Instead, I’m here to help you with the less glamorous side of things.

In this course, you can expect to learn:

● How to set a budget, with real figures and realistic examples of what you will get.
● How to work out the number of stems you’ll need for popular designs, plus the labour
time needed to make them.
● How to make sure your flowers remain fresh before and during the day.
● What to think about (and do) before, during and after your big day.

And that’s not all. You’ll get lots of helpful resources to ensure your day goes smoothly,
including:

● Real life case studies
● Online calculators to help you work out what you need!
● A DIY wedding flowers checklist so you don’t forget anything
● A DIY Toolbox Checklist
● Worksheets to help you plan

About me: Harriet Smithson

From DIY to Professional Wedding Flowers
Back in 2018, before I ever became a professional wedding florist, I did my own DIY
wedding. Without the knowledge I have now, I experienced the stress, the worry, and the
mind-boggling planning that goes into it all.

But I also experienced the amazing satisfaction of creating exactly the wedding I wanted.
There’s something really special about that.
It was a steep learning curve, though, and I wish I’d had a step-by-step guide at the time to
help me understand all the many things I needed to do.
Flash forward to today, and I’ve done the flowers for over 300 weddings, ranging from lavish floral celebrations

to the simple and sweet.I've also seen many DIY weddings - providing buckets and personal flowers - and see the problem areas.

I’ve plenty of tips, tricks, and processes that I've picked up along the way and it’s this invaluable knowledge that I’m going to share with you.

I’ve changed my mind.

DIY isn’t for everyone; if you decide that DIY isn't for you, that’s okay! If you’re based in Cumbria, or having your wedding
here, I can help with your flowers (subject to availability).

Does your course cover fresh flowers or faux flowers?
Because I believe in using fresh, sustainable flowers, the course focuses on these. Some of
the advice will apply to plastic flowers, but I encourage you to consider using fresh instead!
